Sam's Exotic Travels to Hebei Province in the North China Plain.
Hebei is a northern province of the People's Republic of China. The name Hebei means "north of the (Yellow) River". Most of central and southern Hebei lies within the North China Plain. The western part of Hebei rises into the Taihang Mountains (Taihang Shan), while the Yan Mountains (Yan Shan) run through northern Hebei, beyond which lie the grasslands of Inner Mongolia. The Great Wall of China cuts through northern Hebei from east to west as well, briefly entering the border of Beijing Municipality, and terminates at the seacoast of Shanhaiguan in northeastern Hebei. The highest peak is Mount Xiaowutai in northwestern Hebei, with an altitude of 2882 m. Major cities are Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Tangshan, Qinhuangdao, Handan and Zhangjiakou.
To date, my only visit was to Shijiazhuang, capital of Hubei, while on business in August 2008. Shijiazhuang (literally The Stones' Village) is a prefecture-level city and the capital of Hebei province, China. It is about 320 km south of Beijing. Shijiazhuang stands on the edge of the North China Plain at the foot of the Taihang Mountains, which lie to the west. The city stands south of the Hutuo River.
Shijiazhuang is an important industrial city and is considered the economic center of Hebei. Main industries include textile-, pharmaceutical- and chemical-related industries. North China Pharmaceutical Group Corp (NCPC) located in Shijiazhuang is a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in China. In 2002, NCPC achieved domestic sales revenue USD 700 million and export sales USD 100 million.
The city is an important centre for the dairy trade, being the headquarters of the Sanlu Group. Both were rocked by the 2008 baby milk scandal. - Source: www.wikipedia.org
